What is it?

Egwugwu are spirits of the ancestors of Nigerian tribes. They are used whenever the villages need to settle disputes. The egwugwu settle disputes of the highest order that are not able to be settled by the elders of the tribe. Also, an egwugwu is someone who impersonates one of the ancestral spirits of the tribe.



Why is it important to Nigeria?

Egwugwu are important to Nigeria because they are ancestral spirits that play a significant role in religious traditions and rituals of the Igbo people of Nigeria.
